The recession has hit local shops hard

The economic crisis is hitting our area hard. Shops are lying empty in shopping streets like Streatham High Road. Many families across Streatham, Brixton and Clapham are worried about losing their jobs and homes.

After a decade of complacency by Gordon Brown, the economic outlook has rarely looked so bleak.

I'm campaigning to help the local economy by trying to end the neglect of Streatham High Road. I'm also working to save local services like Post Offices, which keep our local economy healthy.

The economy: What I'm campaigning on locally

The economy: What the Lib Dems would do differently

  • Create a sustainable economy, putting Britain back to work by investing in renewable energy, affordable housing, and green jobs.

  • Change the approach to banking. Split up the biggest banks so casino-style risks don't affect the savigns of ordinary customers.

  • Reduce the tax burden on low and middle-income earners to help reduce the gap between rich and poor.
