Chris Nicholson takes on climate change challenge

Parliamentary Campaigner Chris Nicholson led a Lib Dem move to support to the national 10:10 campaign to fight climate change last week.

The project aims to get individuals, businesses, schools and public sector services to cut 10% from the UK's carbon emissions in 2010, in order to lessen climate change.

Chris says, 'While it is clear that the government needs to do more to protect the environment, it is important to recognise that we all have an important role to play in preventing climate change. The 10:10 campaign makes this easier by setting an immediate, measurable and concrete task.'

Last week at the Liberal Democrat Conference in Bournemouth, Chris moved a motion for support for the campaign - and was overwhelmingly supported by the rest of the party.

The Liberal Democrats have a long-standing commitment to fighting climate change, opposing to building a third runway at Heathrow and proposing action, not words, to do something about the problem: by insulating homes, investing in green jobs and getting the government to set bolder carbon reduction targets.

Closer to home, Streatham residents and businesses can contribute too.

Chris told us, 'For my part I will be looking at cutting back on car travel and improving the energy efficiency of my boiler at home and improving insulation at home. I will also be looking to cut back on the little air travel I still do.'
